MORNING WITH LAVENDER

Haute Provence, France, July — I rise sleepily in the dark but know that dawn is close at hand. The brisk walk down the lane gets my blood flowing, my brain in gear, and my eyes ready for what I will see. I head for a small patch of lavender that my inn host mentioned at dinner on the terrace last night. The sun rushes into the early sky, backlighting the intense purple of the lavender and the blond softness of the wild oats strewn haphazardly around. The light is fleeting. All too soon it is overly bright, but I have my shot. It‘s a glorious morning in Provence.
